[inspired by Pacific Science Center’s tropical butterfly garden]
Swarming me in nervous flutters,
I cover my eyes and whisper
I’m pretty
I’m pretty
I’m pretty
They twist and writhe in half-birth
at the butterfly farm.
Struggling against sleep,
they are wet with night sweats
and pant on breaking free.
Yet each season, the crop is too late.
